Regina hit an impressive fire safety milestone in April. It has been two years since the Queen City has suffered a fire fatality. The Regina Fire Department credits significant changes to changes to bylaws that include mandatory hard-wired smoke detectors in rental properties, as well as improved public education.
"The city's Regina Fire and Protective Services Department is unique among fire services across North America in the way they prioritize public education and prevention services," said Mayor Pat Fiacco. "Their work and commitment has made a major difference to our community in saving lives and property."
In the 1970's the average annual fatality rate was six. The rate has dropped to just one in the last decade.
