WINNIPEG – More than 5,000 people voted and the worst road in Manitoba is Brandon’s Victoria Avenue, according to an online poll by the CAA.
“They’ve got a pretty large problem,” said Liz Peters, public and government affairs manager for CAA Manitoba.
“You can get injured when you go through those potholes.”
St. James Street in Winnipeg, last year’s winner, was second, and First Street in Winkler placed third.
“I’ve driven both (Victoria and St. James) in the last week, and I can tell you, Victoria Avenue beats St. James Street by far,” Peters said.
“I had one person on Facebook comment … that when you’re focussed on the four or five feet in front of your car rather than … scanning ahead and looking at the lights and whatnot, you know you have a problem.”
“Atrocious doesn’t even come close to describing this road. I witnessed an accident yesterday as a car veered into the other lane to avoid the potholes,” another Facebook comment said.
Victoria Avenue is slated to be repaired this summer.
There is no hard timeline for repairing St. James Avenue, but the city has made it a priority, Peters said.
First Street in Winkler is a problem because of congestion, according to many people who voted for it. It needs left-turn lanes and widening to four lanes, Winkler drivers told CAA.
The survey helps show government that road repairs are an important safety priority, Peters said.

“It’s not safe driving,” she said.
