TORONTO – In hopes of going viral before the big game Sunday, several advertisers have pre-released their commercials.
Advertisers attempt to be creative and memorable through 30-second long ad spots, which are said to cost advertisers $3.5 million—or a mere $116,666.66 per second—this year.
The Patriots play the New York Giants in the Super Bowl on Sunday at Lucas Oil Stadium. The Giants ended the Patriots' bid for a perfect season in the NFL title game four years ago.
Here’s a look at some of the commercials you will be seeing during Super Bowl XLVI.
The dog strikes back
During last year’s Super Bowl, a commercial featuring a young boy dressed up as Darth Vader became an instant viral hit and became the most-watched Super Bowl spot on YouTube in 2011.
This year, Volkswagon continued its Star Wars theme in “The Dog Strikes Back,” where the sporty, all-new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle inspires Bolt, the dog, to get in shape.
Matthew’s day off
From the director of “The Hangover,” Todd Phillips brings us a taste of actor Matthew Broderick as one of our favourite 80’s hero, Ferris Bueller.
The two-and-a-half minute Honda CR-V Super Bowl commercial does a great job of recreating the day Ferris had a day off in the 1986 film, “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.”
Beckham body wear for H&M
Set to music by The Animals, soccer star David Beckham shows off his underwear line, and perhaps more, for clothing retailers Hennes and Mauritz (better known as H&M).
A dream car for real life
What do you get when you mix Victoria Secret supermodel Adriana Lima with Motley Crue and a 2012 Kia Optima into a one-and-a-half minute commercial?
The answer is this:
Kia also posted a five hour video of Lima waving a flag. In slow motion.
2012 Acura NSX Big Game
Jerry Seinfeld and late-night talk show host Jay Leno star in the new Acura commercial and both will do anything to acquire the very first NSX. Anything.
The extended YouTube version has been viewed more than 7 million times.
